Holiday Drama
Exhale The day, the week, the season, the sky exhales.
Parallel Light Two phenomena, same sky, same moment. A storm pushing east while the light fought back. Look closely along the rainbow, a second line, white and faint, rising parallel. A sun pillar, light reflected off suspended ice crystals, caught alongside the rainbow almost by chance.
Overcast Lies Overcast all day. One hole in the sky disagreed.
Angry Skies, Quiet Harbor Chased back by angry skies, but not before the show. Nature's eviction notice, delivered in lightning.
Burning Layers A hot, ordinary day dissolved into this. Compressed layers of storm and light colliding above the mountains. One of those moments where you just point and shoot and feel grateful.
You Can't See the Smell Ellie sat this one out, her loss. I got the storm and the smell: that clean, sharp, electric, impossible petrichor rush when rain hits dry ground. Surprising, layered, a gift you can't photograph and never see coming. The sky put on a show, but the scent stole it. You can't see the smell. But trust me, it was the best part. ⚡️
Secondhand Sky A cold front rolled in, trading scorching heat for something cooler, but it came at a price. The wind carried smoke from the PNW fires down to us, hazing out the mountains and bending the sunset into colors that aren't quite normal.
No filter on the camera, just the whole sky turned into one, the light strained through a few hundred miles of someone else's fire. Beautiful and a little uneasy at the same time.
We had a guest for it too: a dog we're sitting, watching the lake and mountains like he'd never seen anything like it.
